Medium has really got a very nice little feature for sharing posts, you can actually highlight a snippet of a post and share it along with the link. It’s great because it gives the perspective reader a brief idea of what the post is all about. If a link is shared like this, it is likely to attract more readers and even get more people to read a post. The problem is that it’s not everything we read is on Medium. We probably read contents that comes from different websites and the apps we read in don’t really have anything like Medium’s snippet sharing feature. Meet Highly, it’s an iOS app, and also a Chrome and Safari extension that provides you with this exact functionality on your iOS device and also your browser.
On your iOS device, download and install the app, after that sign in using either your Twitter or Facebook account, or rather sign up for a new user account with your email. Now, go through the brief tutorial, the app will ask you to paste a link to the said article you want to share. Now go to your preferred reading app and find one.
Paste your desired link in Highly and give the app a few seconds to read it.
Once the app has finished reading the article, it is now ready to highlight a snippet of your choice. Go over the article and select the text which you want to share when the article is shared. Select the text like you would always do in any other iOS app. Once the text has been selected, tap on the exclamation mark in the floating toolbar. This will automatically add a red highlight to the text.
Tap on the highlighted text and in the floating toolbar, a share button will be shown. Tap it and select where exactly you want to share the article to i.e., either Twitter or Facebook.
The browser extension also works really good. Install the extension and visit your preferred website. Once you an article you would like to share. Just hit on the ! key. You don’t really need to hold down the Shift key. Just press the 1 button. This will automatically activate the extension.
Highlight a snippet and then click on the share button. Note that you will need to sign in to the Highly app before you can share the link.
