Viral GIFs have now become something of a measure for a Television show or movie’s popularity. A quotable scene, a memorable dialog, or simply the perfect reaction can become the perfect GIF. Assuming, creating a GIF from a movie or Television show isn’t easy, particularly in case you’re watching it on Netflix. Netflix does not allow you to take a screenshot so capturing video and converting it to a GIF is impossible. Meet Cooler; it’s a simple free app that is available for iOS and Android that allows you to create GIFs from a TV show. The app is exceptionally brilliant. So in order to create a GIF, you must be watching the show. The app has a Shazam-like feature that listens in to the TV show, it identifies it and the current clip, and also captures it for you.

Create GIFs From A TV Show

Install Cooler on your Android or iPhone device. Pick the shows you follow and tell the app how far you’ve gotten. If you are not all caught up on a show, you can actually tell Cooler how far you’ve watched. This will enable you to avoid spoilers.

Once set up, turn on your television or your PC and play your favorite show. Tap the bear button in the center and let it listen to the show’s audio.

The app will automatically detect the show and simply show you the clip it caught. Tap the ‘Quick GIF’ button.

Next, all you have to do is select from the clip on which portion you want to use in the GIF. Tap the text button at the top to add a text to the GIF.

Once you’re done, you can now share the GIF on Twitter, or Facebook, or save it to your device. If you’re running iOS 10, the GIF will not play in the Photos app but if you’re running iOS 11, the GIF will play. The GIF quality is pretty cool. They’re pretty short, around 2-3 seconds which is the reason the quality is so great.

Limitations

Cooler supports just a limited number of shows. It also supports all the popular ones like Game of Thrones, The Stranger Things, Westworld, Arrow, and more but not every one of them. More so it is also limited to the GIFs it can create. The Shazam-like detection of shows is quite awesome similar to the text feature however, the app should have an option to automatically embed dialog from the detected show. It isn’t so much that hard to give subtitles for shows are freshly available. The app claims they add new shows constantly so, if you do not see your favorite show at the moment, it will arrive in due time.
