How To Fix Windows 10 Not Detecting Your Android Phone

Sponsored

On the off chance that you just upgraded to Windows 10, there’s a chance your PC doesn’t recognize your Android device any more. You’re not the only one, a few users are facing this issue and I also did as well. A couple of days back, a comment was left on this article about this specific issue and I thought it’s best to make an article out of it.

You’ve probably tried updating your PC drivers hoping it will resolve the problem but it failed. To get your PC to recognize your Android phone, you just need to try either of these two fixes.

Fix 1: Installing drivers from the WindowsINF

  1. Just Right-click on the Windows Start button and select Device Manager.
  2. Find your unrecognized Android device from the list shown. It might be identified as Unknown Device or just MTP Device. Right-click and select the Update Driver Software.

  1. Select the option that says Browse my computer for driver software.

  1. Browse and select the WindowsINF as the driver location.

  1. Click the Next button to finish the installation. If by chance you get a message that says the installation is complete, your work is done here. But, if by chance you see this:

A service installation section in this INF is invalid.

You will have to try the second method below.

Fix 2: Installing from a compatible drivers list

  1. Right-click on the Windows Start button and select Device Manager.
  2. Find your unrecognized Android device from the list shown. It might be identified as Unknown Device or rather just MTP Device. Right-click on it and select Update Driver Software.

  3. Select the option that says Let me choose from a list of device drivers on my computer.

  1. If it shows up, highlight Show All Devices and click the Next option.

  1. On that page, select MTP USB device and click on the Next button to begin the installation:

If by chance it fails, all you have to do is go back and select another driver from this same list. After the installation has been successful, you ought to see a message that looks like the screenshot below:
