Import Notes From Evernote To The Notes App In macOS

Recently Evernote made some changes to its free, plus, and premium plans. Due to this change the price of the paid plans has increased and the features being offered in the free plan has also been cut back so that you can only have two connected devices to your account. Needless to say that the current price hike is likely going to send people looking for other means and they will be spoiled for choice to choose a good notes app.

There is currently a lot of note taking apps available out there and mac0S has its own inbuilt note taking app as well, which gives recent updates, is a bit fairly good. If you are looking to ditch Evernote in favor of the inbuilt Notes app in macOS, you might want to take your notes along with you. Here’s how you can successfully move your notes from Evernote to the inbuilt Notes app in macOS.

Before you begin you must have the Evernote app already installed on your Mac. And also before you can import the notes, you must export them from the Evernote app. Now select all your desired notes you would want to export and go to File > Export Note.

The app will prompt you to select a name for the file and also the format it should be saved to. All you have to do is select Evernote XML Format i.e. “ENEX”. You also have the option to leave your Evernote tags behind by unticking “Include tags for each note”. Though it’s a good idea to keep tags because Notes does not have as many features to keep your notes well organized and also tags might be the only way you can use to find a particular note.

Next, launch the Notes App. Note: you must be running macOS version 10.11.4 or higher to be able to import notes. Now go to File > Import notes and select the ENEX file you earlier exported from Evernote. All your notes will be imported to the inbuilt macOS Notes app. If your iCloud sync is enabled, the notes imported will also appear on any iOS device you own.

For windows users who are looking to move notes from Evernote to OneNote, all you need Is a little tool called Evernote to OneNote import tool to achieve that.
